Care Café is our community-based program providing psychoeducational pop-up support ‘cafés’ throughout the NY metro area. Care Café was born from our mission to provide outreach and involvement in the health of our communities. As the needs of our community are changing rapidly due to COVID -19, so is our outreach, crisis response, support, and interventions. On top of having a demanding job, the presidential election was in full swing and I was bombarded by contentious news that on most days felt assaultive. In response, Wurzweiler School of Social Work’s Care Café decided to fight hate with the only two weapons that work to destroy it: education and love. For this, they turned to a surprising source of inspiration, inviting two friends, both affected by hate in different ways, to speak to an audience made up of YU students, staff and members of the general public. Care Café —Veterans Care Café —Veterans is dedicated to providing services in the veteran’s community. Our initiatives include Mental Health Services for Veterans and others that will explore the ongoing journey of finding one’s place in the civilian world. We aim to support our warriors who struggle with signature injuries of war (including PTSD, trauma, substance abuse and more)and will aid veterans of any conflict, both combat and non-combat, and military families.
