The Sy Syms School of Business has launched six concentrations in its Online MBA Program:

  • Business Analytics: Equips students with data-driven decision-making skills, covering advanced topics like data mining, visualization and predictive analytics, crucial for understanding market trends and optimizing strategies.

  • Marketing: Prepares graduates for rapidly evolving digital and traditional marketing environments, with a focus on modern marketing techniques, the use of AI, sustainable practices and consumer behavior.

  • Accounting: Includes specialized areas like accounting ethics, information systems, and contemporary accounting topics, providing students with skills to handle complex financial reporting and ethical considerations in corporate settings.

  • Real Estate: Addresses the growing demand for professionals skilled in real estate investments and planning. Provides expertise in real estate finance, urban development and sustainable development.

  • Entrepreneurship and Strategy: Focuses on managing change, crisis management and negotiation, along with international business exposure, making it ideal for those seeking leadership roles or starting their own ventures.

  • Finance: Covers entrepreneurial finance, corporate finance, and investments, equipping students with tools to navigate corporate and entrepreneurial challenges, mitigate financial risk and identify and leverage opportunity.

The concentration process began in May 2023 with the launch of the Real Estate Development concentration, followed by the development of the remaining concentrations in early 2024. Dr. Tamar Avnet, MBA Program Director, and Dr. Linda Driver, Executive Director of Graduate Programs, collaborated with faculty members in each of the concentration disciplines to identify courses that would provide a solid foundation in the specific areas. Michele Nicosia, Director of Curriculum and Accreditation, partnered with Dr. Driver to develop the proposal and supporting documents required by the New York State Education Department. The proposal was submitted in August 2024 with approval received the following month.

鈥淭he concentrations offered by the Syms School of Business Online MBA Program significantly strengthen its value by catering to diverse career paths and in-demand business skills,鈥 said Dr. Driver. 鈥淪tudents can obtain skills which allow them to manage across the enterprise while at the same time take a deeper dive into a specific area of interest.鈥
