International Students
Earn your graduate degree in our vibrant, global community
Ó£»¨¶¯Âþ is a welcoming, international community with students from over 50 countries. We’re proud to offer our students a home in New York City — one of the world's largest urban economies and cultural centers. This is your opportunity to earn your graduate degree while living and working in an exciting atmosphere filled with rich professional possibilities.
Before You Apply
Application Requirements
International applicants need to submit a few additional materials along with our standard application requirements. If you attended a university outside of the U.S. or English speaking Canada, you will need to submit a transcript evaluation. This allows our admissions and program staff to evaluate your coursework according to U.S. credentials.
If you received your degree in a country where the primary language of instruction was not English, you will also need to submit TOEFL/IELTS scores taken within the last two years (minimum scores of 100/7, respectively).
Funding Your Education
We’re committed to making your YU degree an affordable investment. We offer a variety of options for financial support including merit awards, external funding and financing options. In addition, the university offers research, teaching and other graduate assistantships on an as-needed basis.

Visa Eligibility and Process
To be eligible for Ó£»¨¶¯Âþ immigration sponsorship, you need to be accepted to a full-time, classroom based academic program on one of the four Ó£»¨¶¯Âþ campuses. Students admitted to an online program of study are not eligible for student immigration sponsorship. The majority of full-time international students in the U.S., and at YU, receive F-1 student status with the I-20 Certificate of Eligibility for Non-Immigrant Student Status.
Our Office of International Services can provide assistance with immigration forms, visa applications, employment information and more. Our advisors are experts in the visa process and can also provide guidance related to new COVID-19 restrictions. OISS also assists international students with cultural adjustment, to help you achieve your educational goals.

Extended Optional Practical Training
Optional Practical Training (OPT) is a type of work authorization benefit that allows international students on an F1 visa to continue living and working within the United States in your field of study after graduation. Normally, OPT lasts for up to 12 months during or after completion of studies. Our programs at Katz are government-recognized STEM-approved degrees, meaning you may be eligible for an extension to OPT totaling 36 months (3 years).
